Background Information:
Memphis In Motion group training programs occur 52-weeks a year. Morning and evening weekday workout options are available (see Summary of Programs). Long runs for the Marathon Program are Saturdays at 6:00 AM. Walkers and runners of all ages and abilities who want to experience high-quality training, led by an experienced Coach, in a positive group environment are encouraged to come out to practice and "try it out." We are a warm, welcoming diverse group.
A Brief History Of The Program: Memphis In Motion started as a continuing education class through the University Of Memphis. From 1997 to 2000, the U of M "How To Run A Marathon" class taught over one hundred first-time marathoners everything they needed to know to successfully cross the Memphis Marathon finish line. Every person who finished the training, finished the marathon. Since then, hundreds more have continued that tradition. Memphis In Motion commenced full-time training operations in 2001. The business soon offered Advanced Training programs as well as Fitness training, which includes outdoor group stretching and strength-training programs, stair-climbing, and monthly nutrition classes.
Many of our Fitness Graduates "grow up" to be marathoners. Most of our marathoners continue to participate in marathons, ultramarathons, and half-marathons to this day.
